Canon today presents the launch of the EOS R5 C, a hybrid film camera that combines the professional video features of the Cinema EOS series with the photographic capabilities of the EOS R system. In the filmmaking range, Cinema ranks below the EOS C70 and ranks alongside the EOS R5.
In addition, information about the new software for the EOS C70 has also been released today.
8K full-frame cinematographic movies
Record cinematographic 8K movies at up to 30fps (or 60fps when using external power), as well as 4K and Full HD content with oversampling. The R5 C also allows slow motion recording in 4K resolution at 120 fps.
Amazing 45 megapixel photos - up to 20 fps
The 45-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor captures extremely clear images with low noise and a wide dynamic range, up to 20fps and sensitivity up to ISO 51,200. time-lapse movies.
A large selection of lenses
Utilizing Canon's revolutionary RF mount technology, the R5 C is compatible with RF lenses equipped with state-of-the-art AF and Image Stabilizer, as well as EF photo and film lenses when used with the EF-EOS R mount adapters. Anamorphic lens support is available with an option. 2x, 1.8x and 1.3x image stretching. The advanced 5-axis IS electronic system works seamlessly independently or in conjunction with optical image stabilizers in the lenses, which translates into stable and smooth recordings.
Focus quickly, accurately and reliably
The R5 C uses Canon's groundbreaking Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology with Eye AF and EOS iTR AF X. This allows it to accurately and reliably track faces / heads / eyes even when the subject is not facing the device. Canon's innovative Dual Pixel Focus Guide visually aids image sharpening in manual focus mode.
A wide selection of professional recording formats and tools
Choose from a variety of internal recording formats including three Cinema RAW Light (LT / ST / HQ) options, XF-AVC, MP4 and even RAW via HDMI. You can record images with incredible dynamic range thanks to the Canon Log 3, PQ and HLG profiles, while taking advantage of professional tools such as the waveform monitor and the false color function.
Compact, lightweight design with active cooling
The R5 C is an extremely small and light Cinema EOS camera. It has a high-resolution OLED viewfinder, a bright 3.2-inch rotating LCD monitor and 13 user-configurable buttons. The new active cooling system allows you to record for a long time, and the magnesium alloy body guarantees durability at a professional level.
Connectivity features
With Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® modules and a multifunction accessory shoe, as well as dedicated connectors for timecode, a microphone with a 3.5mm jack, headphones, micro-HDMI cables, flash sync and USB-C cables, the R5 C is ready for any challenge. It also supports a wide range of photo and video processing software, including image.canon, Content Transfer Mobile, Browser Remote and many more.
Firmware update for the EOS C70
The latest firmware update for the C70 unlocks new advanced features. The ability to record in Cinema RAW Light LT 4K format has been added, as well as - as part of support for this function - the option of saving a proxy file in XF-AVC format. Users can take advantage of all the new creative possibilities and better image quality of the EOS C70, thanks to the Cinema RAW Light LT format and new options for creating animations and stop-motion photos. The update released in December 2021 also brings users greater compatibility with another 12 lenses [1] thanks to the EF-EOS R 0.71x mount adapter - with full optical correction, metadata support and auto focus. Filmmakers now have more flexibility in lens selection.
